On Thursday, July 8, from 6 pm, the first vernissage will take place in the newly established PAF Gallery, located at Ztracená 6 in the historic center of Olomouc. The Prague artist Jan Pfeiffer will open with his very first solo exhibition in Olomouc called The Portal.
Jan Pfeiffer will present a series of black and white animated images in the PAF Gallery, which he has been working on for almost 15 years using a specific animation technique. It is unique for the process of phasing of a permanently erased and then redrawn paper background, which preserves traces of the previous drawings. His educational stays and artistic residencies abroad have made him an educated globetrotter, able and willing to use the prism of unreliable memory to explore historical corners of metropolises and their often no longer existing original architecture. His spiritual overlaps are often related to the genius loci of the given location and its portrayal through disappearing history, individual and collective recollections, responding to the architectural dispositions of locations by sensitively transfering surprising facts of the past to new contexts of today.
