LUCIE ROSENFELDOVÁ IS THE WINNER OF OTHER VISIONS CZ 2016

The winner of this year’s Other Visions CZ competition is Lucie Rosenfeldová with her work Polymind. The Main Award was granted by the international jury consisting of Cordelia Dvorák (DE), Alexander Campaz (US) and Olga Bobrowska (PL). The Audience Award went to Martin Zvěřina and his Pillars.

This year’s PAF offers a rich programme for children, including workshops, screenings of children’s blocks of animated series about animals, as well as full-length animated films.

HOW TO --- CREATIVE WORKSHOPS AT PAF

This year there will be quite a lot of workshops at PAF: you can observe sound with Gurun Gurun, try a workshop of one-second videos, and see the film-archeological ‘Prejection Apparatus’ and computer games with Golem. For children there are workshops of animation and a trip to a time before the construction of the cinematograph. 

PAF: WHY LOOK AT ANIMALS? EXCLUSIVE MUSICAL MIXES

Several Czech and Slovak artists have prepared exclusive “animal mixes” that have anticipated the programme of this year’s PAF.

The programme section Why Look at Animals? will include lectures by Stanislav KomárekPavel Ryška and Andrea Průchová, and a presentation by Michaël Dudok de Wit, who won an Oscar. Puppet films created by Ladislav Starevich, which are over 100 years old and feature an insect, will also be screened.” The biggest cinema in Olomouc will host performances of electronic music and live moving images by two of the most significant world producers on the contemporary music scene, Bill Kouligas and M.E.S.H., in cooperation with Harm van den Dorpel and Michael Guidetti. The premiere of Jan Kulka’s Prejection Apparatus, which enables him not only to screen films, but also to shoot them on classic materials such as paper and lace, will take place in Konvikt. PAF 2016 / THURSDAY 1 DEC

The opening of the jubilee year of PAF will take place during the vernissage of Other Visions CZ, which was curatorially prepared by the art theorist and philosopher Karel Císař. The Spanish film artists Luis Macías and Adriana Vila Guevara, accompanied by the experimental musician Alfredo Costa Monteiro, will perform as part of the Film Labor programme in the Baroque chapel. The world premiere of Moravia, Beautiful Land II, made by Petr Šprincl, who will be in attendance, will also take place. Inga Copeland, aka Lolina, has prepared a special programme for the attic premises of the theatre hall with the American producer John T. Gast and Estonian visual artist Edith Karlson. Accommodation at PAF

As with every year, PAF ensures that its visitors have access to low-cost accommodation; in the school gymnasium and at the after-school club of The Elementary School of St. Ursula, which is only a 10-minute walk from the main festival centre.

Why Look at Animals? Mazanec in a Gallery

A lecture by Martin Mazanec, the main programme manager of PAF, will take place in Gallery 207 at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM). In the lecture he will present PAF – The Festival of Film Animation and Contemporary Arts in its jubilee year.

COMPETITION FOR PAF ACCREDITATIONS

PAF – The Festival of Film Animation and Contemporary Arts - organises a competition for subscribers to the PAF newsletter. Every day from the 1st of November 2016 to the start of the festival, we will draw one name from the list of subscribers, and that person will win a 4-day accreditation worth CZK 590; free admission to the whole festival.

Sobota a neděle se sekcí Film Labor

Sekce Film Labor se zaměřuje na současnou tvorbu, která se rodí ve filmových laboratořích zřizovaných samotnými umělci, tzv. artist-run film labs. Na PAFu představuje osu protínající tři filmové krajiny: Grenoble, Berlín a Barcelonu, a to srkze sérii performance, projekcí a prezentací.

The final day of PAF will open with the animated children’s series Míša Kulička, followed by a sound workshop about an insect from the planet Gurun. There will be a story about Punťa, who is a Czech creation, however, he is somewhat based on Hollywood models. There will also be the following screenings; the experimental film Distruktur from the Berlin film-lab, Dominik Gajarský and Roman Štětina’s Animals and Machines, Jiří Havlíček’s Film Week with live accompaniment by Jan Kratochvíl, the little deer Bambi, and 90-year old John Berger’s looking at animals. Pioneers, robots, Ryška and Kolouch will give a collective performance and we will see the first concert by Dizzcock performing from the Night Rider album. The show will be concluded by OTK in Vertigo. #paf2016

PAF 2016 / SATURDAY 3 DEC

The third day of PAF will feature more than thirty programme blocks, such as Matěj Smetana’s presentation, which is accompanied by a screening block of animated films with the theme of animals. The discussion round table with outstanding guests, deals with the topic of Krátký film (Short Film) and will be led by Pavel Ryška and Jiří Havlíček. During the afternoon, the newly developed computer game Golem and the interactive application Aniscience will be presented. Stan Brakhage’s film, which is composed of moths’ wings and other material will also be screened. Three film performances by the French lab from Grenoble will take place in the theatre hall. The second round table, led by Matěj Strnad, will discuss the possibilities of distribution. The return and the end of the dinosaurs will be presented by the author František Týmal. There will also be concerts; NesbittsRavelin 7Gurun GurnMusic For Your Plants and Tempelhof.

FESTIVAL PREMIERE & MASTER CLASS BY THE DIRECTOR OF THE RED TURTLE AT PAF

In cooperation with the film distribution company Aerofilms, PAF presents the latest film by the cult studio Ghibli – The Red Turtle. The film will be introduced by its director Michaël Dudok de Wit, who will also hold a master class at PAF. 

ANISCREEN - your city, sort of different

PAF has prepared site-specific screenings all around the city – for the young as well as not so young viewers. Unconventional site-specific selections of animated films at places you would never expect.

Cosmological anthropology and new ways of animated festivals in Budapest

Lenka Střeláková, the curator of Other Visions 2015, represented PAF at Anilogue, the Hungarian festival of animated film. She attended the round table concerned with new progressive directions being taken by festivals of film animation. She introduced her selection Cosmological Anthropology

The new author publication Antipro has been released within PAF Edition. It is the result of the cooperation between the artist Anna Slama and the graphic designer Norman Orro. A limited number of 40 copies have been published.
